DIRECT ACCESS BARRISTER

WHAT IS A DIRECT ACCESS BARRISTER?

A direct access (or 'public access') barrister is authorised to receive instructions directly from members of the public. This avoids the need to instruct a solicitor who will then ordinarily instruct a barrister on the client's behalf.

A direct access barrister can provide specialist legal advice (in writing and in conference), assist with the drafting of documents and provide representation at court.

BENEFITS OF A
DIRECT ACCESS BARRISTER

  • Transparent fee structure: Fees are agreed in advance of work commencing.

  • Flexibility: Retain control of your case and seek advice when required. Conferences can be arranged to suit your schedule, remotely and often at short notice if required.

  • Reduced legal fees: Instructing a barrister directly avoids the additional costs of instructing a solicitor.

  • Specialist advice: Receive specialist advice about your case directly.

  • Early evaluation: Barristers are uniquely placed to understand the trial process and provide pragmatic advice at the earliest opportunity. Understanding the merits of your case from the outset can help save considerable amounts of time and money.
